Canned cocktail review: Chaco Flaco

Chaco Flaco canned cocktail review by The Pursuit of Cocktails

Happy Friday cocktail lovers! This week I'm trying the full lineup from Chaco Flaco and I'm super excited about it partly because I love the branding so much and partly because these are made with real liquor!! Not flavored wine or beer or malt beverage. Real vodka, real tequila, and real rum! They are already winning in my book!!

And that branding! Everything about it makes me happy. The colors, the details, the little skeleton guy telling me to "just chill & serve." Perfection! This brand is checking all of my boxes so far. So let's pop 'em open and see how they taste.

But first, cocktail flair of course! I dressed these up with our umbrella Swizzly Sticks and added some berry and lime garnishes. Now we are ready to sip!

Here is my official review of Chaco Flaco canned cocktails:

5 out of 5 cocktail shakers
I am pretty sure these are the best "mid range" boozy cocktails I've had to date! They are 6% ABV so they aren't too light or too strong. The flavors in each of them are so good! And they are made with real booze which automatically makes me like them more. Plus each one is a unique take on the classic cocktail they are modeled after. I'm officially a Chaco Flaco super fan after trying these!
Chaco Flaco Strawberry Daiquiri: The can describes this one as coconut rum, strawberry, pineapple and lime. I would describe it as a coconut tropical cocktail heaven. I was expecting strawberry to be the main flavor here but actually it is the coconut. After the coconut you can pick up on strawberry, lime, and a little bit of pineapple with a touch of rum. This cocktail is not at all like sticky sweet daiquiri mix cocktail you might be imagining. It is light, flavorful, sweet but not too sweet, and the best part is - it is sweetened with real sugar which makes all the difference. Love this one!
Chaco Flaco Vodka Berry Mule: This one is a vodka ginger brew with berries, mint, and cucumbers which I think is a pretty accurate description of what it tastes like. It is a nice berry flavored take on a classic Moscow Mule. It didn't have as much ginger kick to it as I expected but there is a slight ginger flavor. When I was drinking this one, I had poured it into a glass and didn't have the can handy. The entire time I was sipping it I kept thinking there was a flavor in there I couldn't quite put my finger on. It was the cucumber! Which makes perfect sense because my overall impression of this canned cocktail was that it was like a berry vodka spa water. It is so refreshing and so yummy. I love this one too!
Chaco Flaco Mango Margarita: When I was tasting these I saved this one for last because I really don't like mango or mango flavored things. Then when I was pouring it I saw the can described it as mango, pineapple, and a hint of habanero - which made me much more interested. I live for a spicy margarita! The first sip of this ready-to-drink margarita was pure spicy goodness. Just like the other Chaco Flaco cocktails, it is the unexpected flavor that comes through the strongest. In this case it is the heat of the habanero. (It is more heat than spice.) After the heat you can taste the fruity margarita flavors. And similar to the others, you don't really taste the tequila directly but you know it's there. This one shocked me and is surprisingly my very favorite of the group.
Overall you can't go wrong with any of the Chaco Flaco canned cocktails. These are so well done! The flavors are interesting. You can taste that they used really quality ingredients.  I'm a fan! 10/10 would recommend to a friend.

Sweetness

3 out of 5 cocktail shakers
One shaker = not sweet at all  // Five shakers = your teeth may curl

I didn't notice the Chaco Flaco canned cocktails being sweet or tart. They are all three really well balanced so I'm giving them 3 out of 5 for being perfectly in the center of too dry and too sweet.

Booziness

3 out of 5 cocktail shakers
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = OG Four Lokos

The Chaco Flaco canned cocktails each officially ring in at 6% ABV so that is pretty similar to a beer. These are halfway between the light 3-4% hard seltzers and the super boozy 10+%, hard core canned cocktails which makes them perfect for when you want a cocktail with a kick but you aren't looking to rage.

Would I buy this ready to drink cocktail again?

Absolutely! I really loved the mango margarita and it is so different than any other canned cocktail I've had. I know a few other spicy cocktail loving friends that will want to try it. I also really like the tropical flavors of the strawberry daiquiri as well. Heck, I like them all.

If you want to try these awesome canned cocktails you might be able to get them online. This brand is still pretty new so they are rolling out their availably nationwide. If you are in Arizona, you are definitely in luck since this is a local brand.

Fingered crossed Chaco Flaco hits stores everywhere super soon! These are really good ready-to-drink cocktails and the whole world needs to try them. I'll also be keeping my eye out in case they ever come out with another cocktail. I want to be first in line to try anything Chaco Flaco is putting out!

Until next week cocktail lovers, Cheers!
