Canned cocktail review: Candid Cocktails (part 2)

Posted by Jaime Fowler on

Candid Cocktail canned cocktail review by The Pursuit of Cocktails

I am back this week to try the final two canned cocktails from Candid Cocktails. Last week I tried a vodka cocktail and a gin cocktail from them and they both had this wonderful botanical quality to the flavor combinations. If you missed that post you can read it here.

I've been excited to try their whiskey cocktail since I first got my hands on it and this week is the week! But before we dig into the cocktails I just want to mention where they are on my sweetness and booziness scales.

Both of these canned cocktails are a 3 out of 5 on my booziness scale. They both ring in at 8.5% ABV, same as the cocktails from last week.

And they are both on the lowest end of my sweetness scale. The whiskey drink is probably the sweetest of the four with a bit of sweet coming through from the bourbon.

So let's get into it!

Candid Cocktails Vodka with Elderflower, Cucumber, Mint & Lime Juice:

This is the perfect cocktail to serve at a trendy garden party. This cocktail has that wonderful botanical quality to it that I mentioned in last week's Candid Cocktail review. The balance of all of the flavors is perfect with no main flavor coming through to dominate. I know I say this a lot but this is a really nice light vodka cocktail. And because it is 8.5% ABV you can enjoy a light cocktail without having to sacrifice on the booziness - or flavor for that matter!

Candid Cocktails Bourbon Whiskey with Honey, Ginger, Lemon & Apple Juice:

Okay - I love this cocktail. You know I love a good whiskey drink so I've been super excited to try this one. Candid Cocktails has the most interesting flavor combinations and they absolutely nailed it with this one too.

The simplified explication is this canned cocktail is similar to a Souther Mule, aka a Moscow Mule with whiskey instead of vodka. But it is more than that. It does have the ginger flavor of a mule but it also has a touch of sweetness from the bourbon and the apple juice. It is a pretty complex flavor which isn't something you always get with canned cocktails. I love it. I had two of these sent to me and normally I would share one with a friend but because of social distancing I couldn't. When I realized that meant I could drink both of them myself I was so excited and promptly put the extra one in the fridge to chill.

If you like whiskey drinks, you should not miss this one from Candid Cocktails.

Would I buy these again?

Yep! I will be restocking my fridge with the Candid Cocktail Vodka with Black Tea, Lemonade & Thyme and the Bourbon Whiskey with Honey, Ginger, Lemon & Apple Juice next time I spot them in the store.
