Hi cocktail lovers! I'm doing something a little different today, just in time for Galentine's and Valentine's Day next weekend. I'm trying a local to me - don't worry, they ship! - boozy chocolate truffle line in honor of the upcoming holidays.
I love anything boozy so I was super excited to try these. In my experience, boozy chocolates are usually either liquid filled like the little liquor bottle chocolates you see around the holidays - those are strong and weird but also so good - or more solid with the booze infused into a chocolate ganache center and dipped in a hard chocolate shell.
I reviewed the boozy truffles from Trader Joes a few months ago, you can read that review here, and those were the latter. They were a true truffle with the boozy infusion. I wasn't sure which style the ones from the Chocolate Shoppe would be but I'm always down to try anything so I gladly agreed to try them.
The Chocolate Shoppe, located in Gardnerville NV, has 12 different boozy chocolate flavors and you know I had to try all of them - for research purposes of course. 😜 Thier boozy chocolates come in two sizes, a smaller bite-sized truffle and a larger truffle that you could easily take multiple bites of or split and share with a cocktail loving friend.
I really love using small chocolate truffles as drink garnish for a sweet way to top off cocktails so I of course had to try that with these boozy truffles. I grabbed a Swizzly Stick™ from my line, used a small knife to break through the outer chocolate shell and then slid it on the cocktail stick. Perfect!
After I had my cocktail properly garnished, I cut one of the bigger truffles in half to solve the mystery of which type of center these boozy chocolates would have. I picked the Cherry Moonshine truffle to cut open and just look at those cherry chunks!

Now onto the taste test!
Here is my official review of the Chocolate Shoppe's boozy chocolate truffles:

One shaker = not sweet at all // Five shakers = your teeth may curl
As a surprise to no one, these are sweet! They are chocolate truffles after all and I'd be super disappointed if they weren't!
A few of the truffles were sweeter than others with the Bailey's Irish Cream being the sweetest and the Rum truffle being the least sweet.

One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = OG Four Lokos
Okay, so these aren't going to get you drunk. I'm not sure what the ABV is but it's got to be pretty low. So while they aren't going to make you tipsy, they are a fun, indulgent way lightly soften the edges of your day.
Would I buy these boozy chocolates again?
For sure! And I'd pick some up for my friends while I'm there. After trying all of the flavors, I of course have a few favorites but you really can't go wrong with any of them. My top picks include:
-
Crown Royal Peach Whiskey - this had such a great peach flavor and it was a bit sweeter than a few of the others, probably from the whiskey.
-
Chambord Black Raspberry Liquor - I tried this one first and instantly loved it. I could tell right off which liquor this chocolate was infused with and I really liked the raspberry flavor combined with the chocolate.
-
Baileys Irish Creme - this one was a little creamier and a little sweeter than any of the others so naturally really liked it since I like all things over the top sweet.
- Cherry Moonshine - those big chunks of cherry set this one apart! This one just seems extra special with its gold dust detail and it would make a great gift.
I can't wait till my next trip to the Chocolate Shoppe to pick up more of these boozy treats.
If you'd like to order some for your Valentine, head over to their site and load up a cart with some boozy chocolate goodies of your own: https://www.chocolateshoppe.us/product/truffles/
Until next week cocktail lovers, Cheers!
