Ready-to-drink cocktail review: Capriccio Rosé Sangria

Posted by Jaime Fowler on

Capriccio Rose Sangria reviewed by The Pursuit of CocktailsHi cocktail lovers! The week has been a doozy for me and I've been looking forward to a cocktail all week. Between launching my new Wedding Collection ( you can check that out here), having more issues with my printer for the second half of the Wedding Collection, and the emotional inauguration, I'm spent.

I picked up this week's cocktail, along with a few other canned cocktails, at World Market a few weeks ago. I love that they are starting to carry more canned cocktails! I consistently see The Long Drink, Two Chicks and Cafe Agave there which are all brands I've reviewed and loved. I decided to grab this rosé sangria because even though it is wine, it's really a wine cocktail in my book since it includes fruit and fruit juice instead of just straight wine.

But if I'm being honest, I'm not expecting to like this ready-to-drink sangria. Mostly because I haven't had the best of luck with the bigger, more established brands like this one that's been around forever. A lot of those cocktails were created before this new wave of interest in pre-made cocktails and they just aren't as good. In my opinion they survived in the past because there weren't a lot of options but now there are new canned and ready-to-drink cocktails hitting the market constantly. And a lot of those new brands are using real ingredients and real liquor. They aren't settling for flavoring a malt beverage or using cheap wine as the base of the cocktail.

All of this is just to say, I'm skeptical about this one being able to stand up next to the new kids on the block but let's just rip off the bandaid and see how it goes.

Here is my official review of the Capriccio Rosé Sangria:

4 out of 5 cocktail shakers
Okay, I did not expect that! This is actually really good - I know it's a little rude of me to be so surprised but I genuinely am. I full expect this to have a lackluster flavor and a sour grape aftertaste but it doesn't at all.
This ready-to-drink canned sangria has a great fruity red wine flavor. You can actually taste the other fruits before you get the red wine which I really liked. And I can tell that the wine is a rosé because it is slightly lighter and a little bit sweeter than a typical red house wine would be. While the flavor isn't as fresh as what you would get at a restaurant this is still a pretty solid sangria. Plus it gets bonus points for mobility which is one of my very favorite things about canned cocktails.
I'm giving this one a 4/5 because it does still have a red wine taste which I'm personally not the hugest fan of and because it isn't as fresh as some other cocktails I've tried but it is still a good option if you are looking for a pre-made sangria.

Sweetness

4 out of 5 cocktail shakers
One shaker = not sweet at all  // Five shakers = your teeth may curl

This ready-to-drink sangria is pretty sweet with the sweetness coming from the fruit flavors. It's not too sweet for me but it is on the sweeter end. If you like sweeter wines like Moscatos or Rieslings, it's kind of like that but in sangria form with more flavors from all of the different fruit juices. It's pretty sweet and I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

Booziness

4 out of 5 cocktail shakers
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = OG Four Lokos

Officially this one rings in at 13.9% ABV which is pretty strong especially considering that this is made of wine and not liquor. I really liked how boozy this canned cocktail was. It's basically the opposite of a light hard seltzer and you know I'm here for that all day, every day.

Would I buy this ready to drink cocktail again?

I probably won't just because wine, even rosé, is not my go-to drink of choice. But I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to my wine loving friends.
