Ready-to-drink cocktail review: On The Rocks Cosmopolitan

On The Rocks Cosmopolitan ready to drink cocktail review by The Pursuit of Cocktails

Happy Friday cocktail lovers! This is the very first ready-to-drink cocktail review of 2021 and it's going to be a good one. If you haven't heard, they just announced Sex and The City will begin filming 10 new episodes, and I'm dying of excitement!! I have all the episodes on DVD. I've seen all the movies. I love all things Sex and The City. (I'm obviously a Carrie because I have curly hair and love clothes. )

In honor of this momentous news, I'm obviously going to have a Cosmo - the drink made famous by the series. I can honestly say before watching Sex and The City I really didn't know about cocktails. I grew up in the Midwest around mostly beer drinkers. Sometimes I would see someone with a bottle of wine. And maybe a margarita if someone was feeling fancy - and by margarita I mean Mountain Dew and tequila, possibly a splash of oj.

So when I saw the beautiful cocktails on the show my eyes were open to the possibility of a drink that wasn't beer, wine, or a sad mixed drink that had no style. It's possible I owe my whole cocktail loving brand to Sex and The City.

In their honor, this week I am trying the Cosmopolitan from On The Rocks cocktails. A few years ago I tried The Honey Herbed, you can read that review here, and it was a super legit, strong cocktail so I have no doubt their Cosmo is going to be amazing.

And with that, let's give it a try.

Here is my official review of the On The Rocks Cosmopolitan:

5 out of 5 cocktail shakers
This at-home cocktail almost makes me feel like I'm out at a real bar again (Dang you covid!)
Unsurprisingly, this Cosmo is fantastic! The folks at On The Rocks know what they are doing. This pre-made cocktail tastes like it came straight out a shaker at a swanky bar. The tartness to booziness ratio is perfection. The cocktail has a slight sweetness from the berry but it is really just enough to balance out all the other ingredients. And most importantly, this Cosmopolitan is *strong* - just like it should be.
10/10 would recommend! Please do yourself a favor and pick up this cocktail for your next self-care night, possibly while binging Sex and The City or maybe that's just me.

Sweetness

2 out of 5 cocktail shakers
One shaker = not sweet at all  // Five shakers = your teeth may curl

This Cosmo from On The Rocks is more tart that sweet. It is a very drinkable cocktail whether you prefer a sweet cocktail or something a little less sweet.

This is a vodka based cocktail so it doesn't have the innate sweetness of some other liquors so just as a reminder, this is not your usual hard seltzer. This is a real cocktail, with a real, lady-like amount of booze. We'll get into that next.

Booziness

5 out of 5 cocktail shakers
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = OG Four Lokos

Officially this one rings in at 20% ABV or 40 proof so yeah, it's a real cocktail. I would say it is the strong ass cocktail we could all use right now. The booze flavor is totally nonexistent in this Cosmo but you immediately feel that boozy relaxation melt through your body.

If you need something a little stronger than a hard seltzer, give this cocktail a try.

Would I buy this ready to drink cocktail again?

Yes. Done. Absolutely. Will be taking this to my first post-covid hangout with the girls. And, not that I'm already planning it or anything, but I think I'll serve it with a sparkly Swizzly™, garnished with some cotton candy for a sweet treat.

Cheers Swizzly with cotton candy garnish

The On The Rocks bottled cocktails come in two sizes. There is the smaller size which is what I picked up. It is 200 ml which is roughly 6 oz and a little more than a standard Cosmo size - which I love. The larger size is 375 ml which is 12.6 oz. The larger bottle will get you two very generous cocktails or 3 more standard sized cocktails. And the larger bottles come with this cool cork lid as an added bonus. You know I'm a sucker for good packaging.

On The Rocks has several other cocktails in their line up and after loving 2 out of the 2 I've tried, I'll keep coming back for more. Which one should I try next?

  • The Cosmopolitan - love it
  • The Aviation
  • The Old Fashioned - I *need* to try this one asap
  • The Mai Tai
  • The Margarita
  • Jalapeño Pineapple Margarita - um, yes please!

Which one should I try next?

The one of my favorite parts about this amazing cocktail is that you can order it or any of the OTR ready-to-drink cocktail online

  • Was wondering how many calories are in the cosmo

  • I too love this cosmo. I thought it interesting that it uses elderberry extract, but doesn’t mention cranberry or lime. A very unique twist on the cosmo recipe

  • I love the margaritas!!! So much better than you get with all sweets mixes.
Just for the taste some salt and lime with them, I could drink them all day. Lol . ( wish)
