Easy vodka cocktail review: Finlandia Botanical Flavored Vodka

Finlandia Botanical flavored vodka reviewed by The Pursuit of Cocktails

We are trying something totally different this week, cocktail lovers. Flavored vodka! I've been deep in the ready-to-drink cocktails for several years now but I'm excited to start adding in some simple cocktails that don't take a lot of ingredients. So when Finlandia Vodka reached out to me about trying a few of their Botanical flavored vodkas I jumped at the chance.

If you've been following me for awhile then you know, I'm not a bartender. I've never been one and I hate playing one at parties. I want easy cocktails, usually ready-to-drink cocktails or big batch cocktails, so that I can enjoy the party too. But I am open to super simple, two to four ingredient cocktails that guests can mix themselves. So these flavored vodkas are perfect! 

Finlandia included a little bottle of club soda and a small bag of dried garnish from The Garnish Lounge for each flavor. Simple yet super pretty. I added a Swizzly Stick to dress the whole thing up. Now, how do these easy cocktails taste? 

Finlandia Botanical Cucumber Mint flavored vodka styled with a Swizzly Stick

Here is my official review of the Finlandia Botanical flavored vodkas:

4 out of 5 cocktail shakers
It has been awhile since I made a vodka cocktail and I forgot all the basics - including remembering to chill the vodka. But I made it work with a little ice and my handy cocktail shaker to cool everything down. Here's how it went:
Finlandia Botanical Cucumber Mint - I really like this! It is crisp and fresh. The cucumber flavor is very strong with good dose of mint that follows. It is way more flavorful than I was expecting. There is no doubt that this is cucumber mint - with that vodka kick! 
I tasted it straight - for research purposes of course! - and I mixed it with a little club soda and the Garnish Lounge mix that Finlandia sent me. I really liked this vodka both ways. I can see how it would make great, spa worthy cocktails but it is also smooth enough and flavorful enough to drink just over ice.
This one was a hit for me!
Finlandia Botanical Wildberry Rose - I tried this one after the Cucumber Mint so I had a hint of what to expect. But it was totally different! I expected a strong natural berry flavor with maybe a bit of sweetness. This is not that. This one's flavor is much lighter, much less in your face than the Cucumber Mint.
Overall this one has a nice soft floral flavor. I picked up on more rose flavor than berry. Again I tried it straight and mixed with club soda and the dried garnish. I liked it okay but not nearly as much as much as the Cucumber Mint simply because the flavor was much less pronounced. However, this one would be so versatile in cocktails. I can't wait to try a few different options. Luck for us, Finlandia has a bunch of cocktail recipes using this flavored vodka on their website. I know what my weekend plans are!
If you are a vodka drinker you should give this brand a try. They also have a raspberry and a grapefruit flavor vodka with tons of easy cocktail recipes available for all of their flavors.

 

Sweetness

1 out of 5 cocktail shakers
One shaker = not sweet at all  // Five shakers = your teeth may curl

Nope! Not even a touch of sweetness here.

 

Booziness

5 out of 5 cocktail shakers
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = OG Four Lokos

The Finlandia Botanical vodkas are 30 proof so they definitely have the kick you'd expect from vodka. I could feel the booze immediately in that slight burn, slightly warming way which made me instantly remember why chilled vodka is way better. 

I will be popping both of these bottles in the freezer for a nice, chilled cocktail next time I need a strong drink that isn't as heavy as my go-to whiskey.

Would I buy this ready to drink cocktail again?

Yes, I would love to gift the Finlandia Botanical vodkas as part of a gift basket or to bring to a party. They are fancier and more unexpected than a basic vodka and perfect for friends who love floral flavors. I have a friend in mind right now who might just get a bottle from me this holiday season.
