Canned Cocktail review:
10 Torr's Lavender Lemonade
+ Torr Up Tea + mixed!

Posted by Jaime Fowler on

What happens when you mix two canned cocktails from 10 Torr?

Cocktail magic!

If you read my post from last week then you got a sneak peek at the magic behind the can at 10 Torr. This Reno brewery and distillery is putting out some amazing product and I'm pretty sure it isn't going to be a local secret for much longer.

While Reno doesn't have the hipster chic of Portland (where I moved from a year ago) or the big city energy of Phoenix (another city I've recently been a resident of), Reno very much has a yet-to-be-discovered cool factor of the next Austin or Nashville. And putting this level of canned cocktail into the market is putting the"biggest little city" one step closer to being recognized on the national stage.

If you can't tell, I've become a 10 Torr super fan and it's because these cocktails are just dang good! They have four signature cocktails in the market right now with a seasonal one in the works. So I've decided to review each of their cocktails split over two posts.

This week we are tasting the ridiculously awesome Lavender Lemonade and the Torr Up Tea. A little birdy at the tap room suggested I try mixing them so I did and I'll tell you all about it at the bottom of this post.

Up first is the 10 Torr Lavender Lemonade:

My sources tell me this is the number one flavor with the "dad crowd" in the Reno taproom. They claim to be buying it for their wives but let's be real - no one believes them. And if you have a chance to taste this cocktail you'll understand why they are sneaking in to buy more. It is down right delicious. And don't let the lemonade in the name fool you - this isn't a *girly* cocktail.

This Lavender Lemonade canned cocktail has a light (as in not densely lemon-y) taste with a hint of lavender that I wasn't sure I'd like but totally did. It is dangerously drinkable and it's best to remember each of these cans contains two shots of the super high quality 10 Torr vodka - aka it'll catch up to you quick if you're not paying attention.

Sweetness

One shaker = not sweet at all  // Five shakers = your teeth may curl

As lemonades go, this one is not sweet. I grew up on southern sweet tea and super sweet lemonade. This is the opposite end of that spectrum which makes it easy to drink without getting a stomach ache.

Booziness

One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = Four Lokos

Officially this one rings in at 8% ABV and is made up of those two shots of vodka. This cocktail will get you into the happy fuzz zone in a very pleasant way.

Next up 10 Torr's Torr Up Tea:

The Torr Up Tea is a touch sweeter than the Lavender Lemonade. It has a great tea flavor - and don't worry if you aren't a fan of my beloved southern sweet tea - this tea is not sweet tea. It has just a hint of sweetness that I don't know if I would have even noticed if I hadn't tried it directly after sipping the Lavender Lemonade.

This cocktail is also seriously delicious and I feel a little bad giving it one less shaker than the lemonade. In reality I think it is worthy of an extra half shaker because it is just barely edged out by the Lavender Lemonade.

Sweetness

One shaker = not sweet at all  // Five shakers = your teeth may curl

The Torr Up Tea is a hint sweeter than the Lavender Lemonade but in the grand cocktail scheme, it is not sweet cocktail. If you like iced tea with like half a packet of Sweet N Low then this is the perfect level of sweetness for you.

Booziness

One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = Four Lokos

Officially this one also rings in at 8% ABV with those two shots of vodka in every can.

Then Mixed - Game Changer!

I have three words for you. Spike. Arnold. Palmer.

I'd even through in "artisan" at the beginning of that if I was getting fancy. It is a lavender lemonade after all. But all kidding aside - this is where it's at. From the first sip of mixing these two canned cocktails I was hooked and this is what I will be doing moving forward. If you need me this weekend, I'll be figuring out a way to hoard more of both of these flavors.

Would I buy this again?

Ummm, unequivocally YES!

Canned cocktail review of 10 Torr

Make sure to come back next week when I try the next two flavors from 10 Torr - the Cucumber Cooler and Greyhound Soda.
