Canned cocktail review: Cape Line Sparkling Cocktail Hard Strawberry Lemonade

Cape Line Hard Strawberry Lemonade canned cocktail review

Is there anything more refreshing than a summer lemonade?

Hot days always make me crave light, bubbly cocktails and a lemonade cocktail will always catch my eye which is what drew me into picking up the Cape Line Hard Strawberry Lemonade this week. I've been seeing this line all over the Gram this summer dubbing it the "cocktail of the summer" so I was eager to try it. Plus the packaging is super cute. How clever is it to design a can that looks like an actual cocktail glass?!?!

But beyond the cute design, the can detailed several of my favorite things to look for when I'm cocktails shopping - including real cane sugar and natural ingredients. Plus it is gluten free which is important to several of my girl friends. Side note: Did you know that there are a lot of "cocktails" on the market that are actually malt beverages, which means they are beer, which means they have gluten? Rude right? Luckily though the Cape Line Sparkling Cocktails are not in that category.

Canned cocktail review of Cape Line Hard Strawberry Lemonade

The can - and all the media hype - had me really excited to try this canned cocktail. So how did it turn out .... keep reading.

Here is my official review of Cape Line's Hard Strawberry Lemonade:

Three cocktail shakers

I was underwhelmed. This canned cocktail was a let down for me. I can't quite put my finger on what it is but I just did not care for it. The flavor was just okay. I didn't get lemonade or strawberry flavors - just a tartness. And something about the booziness was just off. I would be worried about what kind of hangover this cocktail would give me if I had more than one.

I am going to add a disclaimer here that I picked this up as a single can from the grocery store so I'm wondering if a) it wasn't that fresh or b) it when through too many hot/cold cycles before it made it to me.

Sweetness

One cocktail shaker
One shaker = not sweet at all  // Five shakers = your teeth may curl

This canned cocktail is not sweet at all. It is probably just one step above unflavored sparkling water in terms of sweetness. The label does boast real cane sugar which always makes these pre-made cocktails better so it has that going for it for sure.

Booziness

Two cocktail shakers
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = Four Lokos

Officially this one rings in at 4.5% ABV so it is not very strong. I'm going to take the cans word for it this week because honestly, I only made it a few sips in.

Would I buy this ready to drink cocktail again?

I'm torn. I really really wanted to like this cocktail. And there are two other flavors - margarita and blackberry mojito - so I would like to try at least one of those before I rule out the Cape Line Sparkling Cocktails all together.

Have you tried Cape Line canned cocktails ? What did you think? Should I give one of the other flavors a go?

I'd love to hear from you in the comments section. The more opinions the better! Let's "drink together" and share our cocktail stories.
