Canned cocktail review: BuzzBallz Lotta Colada

Canned cocktail review of BuzzBallz by The Pursuit of Cocktails

I've been wondering about the BuzzBallz line of canned cocktails for awhile now

They are a little strange looking with the BuzzBallz round cans. The labeling isn't that cute - you know how a cute label will hook me every time. And there are just so many of them lined up on the shelf at my local Total Wine that picking one to try seemed daunting. I was standing in the aisle trying to decide whether or not to go for it and just pick one out when I did a little Instagram research. Turns out this is another woman owned cocktail brand and with that I knew I had to support the sisterhood and I picked one out. After a lot of consideration - i.e. mostly trying to find the can that had the most perfect label for photographic purposes - I landed on the Lotta Colada.

This BuzzBallz canned cocktail is rum, coconut cream, pineapple juice and lime juice. When I tried it, I was instantly transported back to the days when my dancing queen, gay bestie basically lived on Malibu and pineapple. But this was stronger! Read on for more details.

Here is my official review of BuzzBallz Lotta Colada:

Three cocktail shakers

This can is tiny and upon noticing that is has a really high percentage of alcohol, I was pretty sure this was going to be an interesting first sip. Boy was I right - but not in the way I expected. I fully expected to get a full wave of rum but instead it was super strong, sweet pineapple juice which was a nice surprise. I still did that little cough, eye squint thing you do something hits the back of your throat wrong but not because of the booze.

The best word to describe this cocktail is strong. The booziness is strong, though it's not a totally overwhelming rum flavor. The pineapple and coconut flavor is strong. The sweetness is strong. It's just a strong drink. You will either really like it or what nothing to do with it. Personally, I liked the cocktail itself just fine. I wouldn't hesitate to slam one before going into a concert or something. It's not exactly a "sit around and sip with your friends" type of cocktail but it will for sure get the job done in a hurry if you're into that sort of thing. No judgement here!

Sweetness

Four cocktail shakers
One shaker = not sweet at all  // Five shakers = your teeth may curl

Pretty. Darn. Sweet. This is one of the sweetest cocktails we've tried. It reminder me a lot of those sugary blending drinks that are every 100 feet in Vegas. You know the ones, with the wall of churning icy cocktails. The difference here is that the BuzzBallz don't come to play. This one is packed with boozy. See below...

Booziness

Four cocktail shakers
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = Four Lokos

Officially this one rings in at 15% ABV making it one of the strongest premade cocktails we've tried. It's a stiff drink packed into a little can. Wowza! If those colorful, icy cocktails in Vegas married a full bottle of rum, you would get this canned cocktail.

Would I buy this ready to drink cocktail again?

I don't know that I would buy the Lotta Colada again but I would definitely be open to trying a few of the other flavors and cocktails from this brand. I had trouble narrowing down to just one to try for this review.

While these might not be the most refined cocktail, they have their place in the cocktail line-up. This is a much classier version of shotgunning a beer. ;)

Have you tried BuzzBallz before? What did you think? I'd love to hear from you in the comments section. The more opinions the better! Let's "drink together" and share our cocktail stories.
