Canned Cocktail Review: 'Merican Mule (Part 2)

Posted by Jaime Fowler on

Ready-to-drink cocktail review of 'Merican Mules

I'm back this week for the second installment of my review of the canned cocktail Mules from 'Merican Mules. Each of the Mules from these guys uses a different liquor as the base for a creative spin on a traditional Moscow Mule. I love the creativity of this brand! Their packaging is amazing. I love their mule logo. I've even seen some super cute swag on their Instagram. But without a solid cocktail, it's just another pretty face right?

Lucky for us, this is a well rounded brand so we don't have to feel guilty for loving their branding! Last week I thoroughly enjoyed the first two Mules - the traditional Moscow Style and a Southern Style with bourbon as the base liquor. The Mules were really easy to drink and did taste distinctly different from each other. That Southern Mule is still on my mind. If you missed it, you can read my full review here.

This week I'm trying the Tropical Mule which is made with rum and the Mexican Mule which is of course made with tequila. Spoiler alert: one of these was a sleeper hit for me and my friends.

'Merican Mule's Tropical Style:

'Merican Mule Tropical Style review

Overall score: 5 / 5

4 out of 5
Sweetness:
One shaker = not sweet at all // Five shakers = your teeth may curl
2 out of 5 cocktail shakers
Booziness: 7% ABV
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = OG Four Lokos
3 out of 5 cocktail shakers

I did NOT expect this one! I was all like, rum okay that sounds interesting. Pineapple and coconut, yeah yeah yeah, tropical, cool. BUT dang! This one came out of nowhere and became my very favorite.

Rum is not generally my go-to liquor which is why I expected last week's Southern Style with the bourbon to be my favorite. I do still really like that one but this Tropical Style is a must-have! It's light and fruity with an island vacation vibe. It still tastes like a Mule but with coconut and pineapple. I really can't describe it accurately so I'm just going to say that it is like a little taste of the beach vacations we aren't having in this year of Covid. We might not be able to vacation like normal this year but this Tropical Style from 'Merican Mule is like a little touch of a tropical vacay in a can.

Of the three creative 'Merican Mules, this Mexican Style is the closest to the original Moscow Style Mule. It is exactly like you'd expect a Mule to be except with a little kick of tequila. It's nothing crazy. The tequila flavor does not overwhelm the ginger beer which I thought it might. All of the flavors are super well balanced and you can pick out each part. The overall cocktail is very easy to drink and a fun divergence from a traditional vodka Mule.

If you are feeling like mixing it up but you don't want to get too crazy, try this Mexican Mule first. It's like the gateway Mule for the other two more exotic flavors.

Would I buy these again?

Absolutley! I would drink any of these Mules again in a heart beat but I'll be especially on the lookout for more of the 'Merican Mule Tropical Style.

I said it last week but it's true again, if you are on the hard seltzer bandwagon this summer do yourself a favor and try these Mules as a light cocktail alternative. They have more flavor, more boozy while still being light for the hot weather, but they are a hell of a lot more fun!

Until next time, cheers!!
