With 14 cocktails in their lineup, we learned a valuable lesson about Cutwater - and life!
In this week's life lesson via cocktails, "don't judge a book by it's cover." It's natural, we all do it but it doesn't always serve us well. In this case I had a preconceived idea of what both of this week's cocktails should taste like. And I was totally off base with one of them which means I would have missed out on my new favorite from Cutwater Spirits.
Which one is it? Keep reading to find out.
Cutwater's Tequila Paloma:
Overall score:
4 out of 5 cocktail shakers
As soon as I popped open this canned cocktail I got a strong scent of margarita. It was enough to make me check the label again.
And then I took a sip and it's delicious! Aaaand a little like a marg... Palomas are a tequila cocktail so that makes sense. This cocktail is made with tequila, carbonated water and grapefruit so it is very similar to a margarita with grapefruit instead of lime.
Okay, I'm just going to say it - I like this Paloma better than the Cutwater margarita (which I also really like. You can read my review of the margarita here).
This ready-to-drink cocktail is light but flavorful and you definitely get a tequila kick from it - enough that I instantly wanted to reach for the margarita salt. I'm a fan of tequila so it worked for me but that is something to keep in mind when you are picking from the Cutwater canned cocktail line up. They have cocktails with different base liquors so if you're more of a whiskey girl, they've got you. Vodka is your favorite side kick, no problem. And of course, there is always tequila. I've made a fancy chart of their full line-up down below.
Now onto the next drink!
Cutwater's Grapefruit Vodka Soda:
Overall score:
5 out of 5 cocktail shaker
This one is a sleeper hit!
I was all set to not like this drink because vodka soda is just not my jam. I like my cocktails a little fancier.
But Cutwater has done it again and made an OG cocktail something special - and in a can no less! This is surprisingly great. It's crisp, refreshing with just a hint of citrus. It doesn't have an alcohol kick back that some canned cocktails have. Basically, it's nothing like what I imagined it to be. And I 100% like this Vodka Soda over any of the spiked seltzer waters I've tried so far.
I will totally drink the pre-made Vodka Soda again soon.
Would I buy these again?
Yes, I'll be buying more of the Vodka Soda for sure. And I'm sure I'll be back for the Paloma this summer. It is a perfect warm weather drink.
Here is a handy chart of the Cutwater line-up to help you decide which cocktails to try based on your liquor preference:

- Whiskey: Black Skimmer Whiskey Highball, Black Skimmer Whiskey Lemon Tea
- Tequila: Tequila Paloma, Tequila Margarita
- Gin: Old Grove Gin & Tonic
- Rum: Three Sheets Rum & Ginger, Three Sheets Rum & Coke
