Cutwater Canned Cocktail Review:
Cutwater's Lime Margarita & Vodka Mule

Posted by Jaime Fowler on

Cutwater cocktails review by The Pursuit of Cocktails

I'm hooked on Cutwater canned cocktails!

After falling in love with Cutwater's spicy bloody mary, I knew I had to try more and more of their ready-to-drink cocktail line up. Cutwater currently has 14 canned cocktails on the market. That's nuts! I'm not saying I'll try them all - but I'm not saying I won't either.

I love that these come in so many cocktail options and that they are sold in four packs. Cutwater is making it suuuper easy on us to make everyone in our crew happy. You can easily stock your mini bar or cooler with a few different cocktails and keep everyone happy without having to play bartender all night - which is always a major goal of mine.

But which of the 14 cocktails should you try? Let's find out.

My new besties over at Cutwater sent me four more cocktails to try. Plus, we know the spicy bloody mary is a win, you can read my full review here. So this week we are going to try the Lime Margarita and the Vodka Mule with the Tequila Paloma and the Vodka Soda waiting in the wings for next week.

First up, let's try the marg:

Cutwater Tequila Margarita:

Overall score:
3 out of 5 cocktail shakers

This is a solid margarita choice when you really want to have an on-the-go marg. I would 100% bring this to a tailgate or backyard party.

This margarita doesn't tasted canned in any way and it has a nice fresh lime flavor. It is definitely a major step up from using one of the old school margarita mixes.

The only thing missing for me was the salt but I think you could get creative and salt the rim of your can. Top it off with a lime and suddenly you've got a fancy pants canned cocktail.

Cutwater Vodka Mule:

Overall score:
4 out of 5 cocktail shakers

This is the best ready-to-drink Moscow Mule I've tried to date.

What really sets this one apart is how much stronger and fresher the ginger taste is. The ginger comes through right away with a spiciness that took me by surprise.

I'm not a big fan of ginger, so I've always been a little skeptical of mules, but in this case it totally worked for me. This Vodka Mule was strong, spicy and just darn good. Another hit from Cutwater!

Would I buy these again?

Yes, and I'll keep trying more canned cocktails from Cutwater.

Y'all know that I get sucked in by cool packaging so I obviously adore how all the different Cutwater canned cocktails look tossed together over ice. But these cocktails are more than just a pretty face. They really deliver on taste!

If you'd like to try these cocktails but haven't seen them in stores near you, don't worry. You can order these online!

  • Got the margarita as a freebie with purchase at my local liquor store. This was absolutely the worst so called margarita I have ever tasted. After two sips I poured it out in the sink! As a trained and experienced bartender, I would never, EVER recommend this product to anyone! It has an overwhelming tequila flavor slightly soured by lime with a very noticeable tinny finish. I suppose I could have doctored it up to make it drinkable. But why bother when I can make a perfect margarita from my home liquor cabinet. I regularly recommend to my guests that they sub Grand Marnier for triple sec because it makes for a richer, slightly sweeter flavor as opposed to springing for high end tequila that you will never be able to taste over the mixers. Then I recommend if they are buying for their home bars the cheaper alternatives that do the same thing ( Grand Gala or La Belle O’range). Everyone loves it! I would have been absolutely annoyed if I had actually purchased this and would steer anyone considering it away in a heartbeat! Absolutely terrible!

  • Cutwater GIn and Tonic is hands-down my fav. Less alcoholic but quite refreshing with an unusual but lovely hint of cucumber.
    The Mule is good.
I like the mild Bloody Mary better than the spicy. The mild is pleasantly spicy.
Both Bloody Mary’s need a dose of some brine, pickle or olive juice. to be really good.
Margarita tastes like a Margarita. I agree it needs salt. Good, but a bit too sweet for me.

  • I love it! I tried it for the first time and was not disappointment. I’m trying to cut back on all the sugar in the cocktails drinks. This is perfect! Excited to try the other flavors in the future, as well!!
