Hi cocktail lovers! I'm back this week for the second half of the Social Hour canned cocktail reviews. This week I am trying their Whiskey Mule and their Gin and Tonic. If you missed my review of their Pacific Spritz last week, you can catch up here. I really liked last week's cocktail and I've been excited to try these other two so let's just dig in.
First up, the whiskey drink.
Social Hour Whiskey Mule:
Overall score: 5 / 5

Sweetness:
One shaker = not sweet at all // Five shakers = your teeth may curl

One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = OG Four Lokos

This is the cocktail from Social Hour that I've been most excited about since I got them in the mail. I love a good whiskey drink and whiskey mules are quickly becoming one of my favorite styles of cocktails - and this one did not disappoint!
The Social Hour Whiskey Mule is perfection - and unlike other whiskey mules that I've tried. This mule has a really strong ginger beer flavor right up front that is then followed by a really rich but not overpowering whiskey. First you get a "burn" from the sharpness of the ginger. Then you get a slightly less "burn" from the booziness of the whiskey. And somehow the whole thing comes off as really smooth and really flavorful which I in my book is how all the best cocktail are.
If you already know that you don't like a powerful ginger beer flavor then you might want to skip this one. But for anyone else, I say give it a go. I really fell for this ginger forward whiskey mule and I can't wait to have another. 10/10 would recommend to any whiskey or mule lover - even though I would kind of like to hoard all of these and keep them for myself. LOL
Social Hour Gin & Tonic:
Overall score: 4/ 5

Sweetness:
One shaker = not sweet at all // Five shakers = your teeth may curl

One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = OG Four Lokos

Don't @ me but gin and tonic has never been my jam. I dislike tonic and I'm only recently coming around to gin drinks. I think I had too much Tanqueray in college and all I can think about is the strong pine flavor. So I was a little nervous to try this one from Social Hour - but I've really liked the other two cocktails from them so I figured if there was ever a G&T I'd like, it would probably be this one.
I was right! This was pretty good and I'm betting if you like G&Ts then you'd be over the moon for this one. For me the gin was just right and didn't have a super strong flavor to it. It seemed to have a little bit of a citrus flavor to it but I'm thinking that was from the gin itself. Either way, I liked it!
If you like a drier cocktail that is still full flavor then I think this might be your winner. I'm actually kind of stunned that I liked this one because I do prefer a sweeter cocktail but in this case the dryness worked, the gin didn't bother me and the tonic didn't put me off. I don't know how they did it but the cocktail magicians at Social Hour are truly masters of their craft!
Would I buy these again?
Heck yes! I am officially a Social Hour fan girl. I loved all of their cocktails! This is what the ready-to-drink cocktail movement is all about. These are solidly high-end cocktail bar worthy drinks that happen to be in a can. With cocktails like this available at your house you really don't have to go out to get a good drink anymore.
Case in point, during the time when I first sampled these on Wednesday and now (Friday morning) I went out with a girl friend for dinner and drinks. We got drinks at two different places, each one around $14, and neither of them could hold a candle to these from Social Hour - even though we went to the two best cocktail places in my town. It really does make a girl want to just skip all that and stay home with a canned cocktail.
If you'd like to order the Social Hour cocktails you can do that directly from their website here: https://www.socialhourcocktails.com/team-4
Until next week, cheers my dears!
