Canned cocktail review: Revel Tales

Revel Tales ready-to-drink cocktails reviewed by The Pursuit of Cocktails

Happy Friday cocktail lovers! This week I am trying the ready-to-drink cocktails from Revel Tales. This is a brand that was not on my radar at all until they reached out to me and offered to send me samples. I of course said yes, please! I've been really excited to try them for a couple of reasons. One, they use monk fruit as their sweetener which isn't something I've seen but I always like cocktails that use real cane sugar, or agave, something natural as the sweetener. Two, both cocktails are gluten-free which I have a lot of requests for. And third - and most exciting - they use a fruit that I'd never heard of before let alone tried, pawpaws!

So let's just get into it! I topped off both cans with one of my new bendy paper straws for a little cocktail flair and started sipping.

Here is my official review of the Revel Tales canned cocktails:

Four cocktail shakers

First up I tried the Pawpaw + Green Apple + Rum cocktail and WOW!  I have never had anything even remotely close to that flavor. I have been thinking about how to explain the flavor to you for days now and I'm still not sure but I'll give it a try. Prior to taking my first sip I looked up what pawpaws taste like. The internet described the flavor as a cross between a mango and a banana. In this cocktail I got full on banana flavor followed by a strong-in-a-good-way white rum flavor. I didn't pick up any mango flavor and maybe just a touch of apple in the crispness of the overall cocktail. Technical flavor profile aside (how official does that sound?!?! 😜) I really don't know how to describe this cocktail. It is fruity, slightly sweet in a very natural tasting way. It has a pretty strong white rum flavor. And it all comes together to be like nothing else I've ever had. For that reason alone, I like it. But beyond the novelty, this is a really nice, natural cocktail that is refreshing in both flavor and uniqueness.

Next up I tried the Coconut + Key Lime + Vodka. I loved this one from the first sip. It was so coconut-y and tropical and so fresh tasting. It is the closest thing I've had to an authentic, served in a coconut tropical cocktail since I got back from Bali a few years ago. This tastes like an island drink. It doesn't have any of that weird preservative flavor that some ready-to-drink tropical cocktails have. I loved everything about this one.

Overall, I really liked both of these cocktails for very different reasons. I want everyone to try the Pawpaw + Green Apple + Rum to expand our cocktail flavor horizons. And I can't wait to pop open another Coconut + Key Lime + Vodka. If you need me this weekend I'll probably be floating in my stock tank pool with one of these Revel Tale cocktails.

Sweetness

Two out of five cocktail shakers

One shaker = not sweet at all  // Five shakers = your teeth may curl

Both of these Revel Tale canned cocktail are sweetened with monk fruit and you can totally taste the natural ingredient difference. The cocktails are sweet but not sugary if that makes sense. They won't leave you feeling icky from being too sugary.

Booziness

2 out of 5 cocktail shakers
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = OG Four Lokos

This ready to drink margarita officially rings in at 5% ABV so they are on the light end. They are great day drinking canned cocktails for that reason plus the monk fruit sweetener won't make you feel gross like sugary cocktails can. These would be perfect pool side or for a day on the water.

Would I buy this ready to drink cocktail again?

For sure! Like I said, I really liked the flavor of both of these canned cocktails from Revel Tales. Plus they have zero sugar, 100 calories, are gluten-free and keto-friendly. You know I don't personally care much about those things but in this case I really like that. Probably because they are a darn good cocktail first - and then also have those added benefits.

Revel also has one other canned cocktail that I hope to try in the future. I think they might be sold out of them currently but I can't wait to get my hands on their Blueberry + Lemon + Whiskey. Blueberry and whiskey is one of my very favorite flavor combos so if you see one of those Revel Tale cocktails in the wild, let a girl know where she can pick one up!

You can order the Revel Tale cocktails online if you are interested in trying these out. That PawPaw cocktail something else!
