Canned cocktail review: Post Meridiem Mai Tai & Daiquri

Posted by Jaime Fowler on

Post Meridiem canned cocktail review of the Mai Tai and Daiquiri ready-to-drink cocktails by The Pursuit of Cocktails

Hi cocktail friends. Happy Friday! I'm back today with the second installment of me trying all of the Post Meridiem canned cocktails. We started off with a bang last week with one of the best margaritas I've ever had. If you missed that post, you can catch up here. This was my first time trying a Post Meridiem cocktail and their focus on real lime juice was the true star. I'm interested to see how that translates into their other cocktails.

This week I'm trying both of the rum cocktails, the Mai Tai and the Daiquiri. I want to note right off that bat that even though these are both rum cocktails, they use entirely different rums which I find very exciting. The range! The Mai Tai uses a "blend of Caribbean rums" which should mean it will be a rich, dark rum. The Daiquiri uses "silver and West Indies rums" which I think will be a lighter rum. I have to say, I love this kind of attention to detail. It almost always pays off in a winning cocktail.

So let's see, here are my official reviews.

Post Meridiem Mai Tai: Post Meridiem Mai Tai canned cocktail review by The Pursuit of Cocktails

Overall score: 5 / 5

5 out of 5 cocktail shakers
Sweetness:
One shaker = not sweet at all // Five shakers = your teeth may curl
2 out of 5 cocktail shakers
Booziness: 23.5% ABV or 47 Proof
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = OG Four Lokos
5 out of 5 cocktail shakers

Wowza! This is going to be one of those that is hard for me to explain how good it is. I loved this canned cocktail from the first sip! And the booziness! This Post Meridiem Mai Tai is so tasty, so boozy, so so good!

The rum is spicy in the best possible way. It cocktail itself has a rich, sweet orange taste, followed by extra heat from the booze. It is almost soulful - which sounds crazy but stick with me here. Even though I know this cocktail came from a can because I poured it myself, it tastes like it was personally crafted, by hand, for me, to enjoy slowly and appreciate all the flavors - forcing me to slow the F down and take a minute to enjoy something fully. (Which is not my strong suit over the last year. Thank you pandemic. 🙄) Not to get all hipster cocktail bar on us but this is a cocktail that should be savored, lingered over, thoughtfully enjoyed.

Even if you don't like spiced rum, I think you owe it to yourself to try this cocktail. It's that good.

Let's see if the daiquiri can continue this winning streak . . .

No sticky sweet daiquiri mix here! This must be what a real daiquiri is like. Since I've stared doing these reviews I've had to adjust a few of my world views on what certain cocktails are like. This Post Meridiem daiquiri has just added to my belief that what I thought was a daiquiri was really more like the frozen pizza version of the real thing. And, continuing with this weird analogy, I imagine this daiquiri is like having pizza straight from Naples, Italy.

This rum cocktail doesn't lead with the rum flavors the way the Mai Tai did. It is more sweet up front but in a pure, fresh ingredient kind of way rather than a bottled mixer way. I could pick out the real lime juice here and it does really work to brighten up all the flavors. This was a super smooth, slightly sweet, relaxing cocktail. I can't wait to have another!

So far the Post Meridiem cocktails are killing it! I have two more to try next week. Fingers crossed they will be just as good.

Would I buy these again?

YES!! Always yes! They aren't available in my area just yet or I probably would have already restocked all of the Post Meridiem cocktails I've tried so far.

But the good news for all of us is that they just launched online ordering this week!!! WooHoo! Cocktails for everyone!

If you'd like to try any of the the Post Meridiem canned cocktails you can order them online and I highly recommend you do! :)

I'll be back next week with the Post Meridiem Double Old Fashioned and Lemongrass Vodka Gimlet. Until next week, cheers my dears!
