Hi cocktail lovers! We are trying a whole new category of canned cocktail today - a mimosa!! I do love a champagne cocktail but I've never really considered a ready-to-drink mimosa since it is one of the simplest cocktails to make. Even my mom who doesn't drink at all knows how to make a mimosa. So a canned version is an interesting idea and I'm eager to see what it's like.
If you follow the ready-to-drink cocktail world at all you might have seen the Picnic Brunch brand with it's bright yellow and red gingham checked cans. Of course I already love them for their branding nod to the traditional picnic table cloth pattern. That kind of design detail makes me smile so I'm really hoping I like their cocktails.
Let's try it!
Here is my official review of the Picnic Brunch Mimosa:
This one was a bit of a head scratcher for me. Normally on the first sip, I know what I'm going to rank a canned cocktail but this one threw me for a loop. I actually just kept drinking it and drinking it trying to wrap my head around it and eventually landed on this rating because I clearly liked it enough to finish off a full can and I put another one in the fridge to enjoy tonight.
One shaker = not sweet at all // Five shakers = your teeth may curl
This ready-to-drink mimosa was not sweet at all. The oj was more mild than sweet or tart. I'm a huge orange juice snob at this point in my life. I'm bougie and I will basically only drink one brand of oj. Compared to my go-to brand, I do wish the orange juice in this mimosa was a touch sweeter but that is purely my oj preference.
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = OG Four Lokos
Officially this one rings in at 6.9% ABV which is pretty decent. I have to say though, after finishing the entire can almost accidentally, I didn't register the booziness consciously. It did soften the edges of a headache I was fighting and I was more relaxed so it definitely worked. The booziness is sneaky on this one.
Would I buy this ready to drink cocktail again?
I will keep these in mind. I think they would be perfect for a beach picnic or glamping set-up - anywhere I couldn't bring a glass bottle of champagne.
While this canned version doesn't have the bubbles you'd get with a freshly popped bottle of champs, the ease of only having to grab a pack of these cans verses keeping track of a bottle of champagne and a bottle of juice makes it worth considering.
