Canned Cocktail Review: Curatif Tommy's Margarita

Curatif Tommy's Margarita canned cocktail review by The Pursuit of Cocktails

Tommy's Margarita

Hi cocktail lovers! I'm back with another canned cocktail from Curatif's Escape Series. Curatif is an Australian cocktail brand that is not available in the US just yet but hopefully very soon. All the cocktails I've tried from them have been so good. The Espresso Martini is a dream and I have one left and I'm saving it for a special occasion because it is that good. If you are interested in the other Curatif cocktails I've tried you can read my full review of the Espresso Martini here, the Negroni here, and the Pineapple Daiquiri here.

This week I'm trying Tommy's Margarita. I'm not sure what makes it a "Tommy's" marg but I'm excited to find out. Also, I am head over heals for this can design and I kind of wish I could get it as wallpaper for my dining room but that's a whole different type of blog.

So let's dig in and see with this ready-to-drink margarita is all about.

Here is my official review of Curatif Tommy's Margarita:

5 out of 5

At first sip I could tell this pre-made margarita was different but it took me a few more sips - okay, half the can - to put my finger on what it was. At this point I've tried quite a few ready-to-drink margaritas and this one is subtly different in a really interesting way.

After further research I finally figured it out. The Curatif Tommy's Margarita is 100% a margarita through and through but the whole margarita flavor is "smoothed out." Yes, I just made that up. LOL It's not that it is watered down in any way. It's not. It's 18.5% alcohol to be exact. It's actually that the traditional citrus flavor is smoothed out with a slight sweetness. It takes the tartness away without dulling the flavor. And the tequila is so well incorporated that you don't even know that it is there. I'm not sure how Tommy did this but I really want to be his friend.

This is a quality, unique, smooth, strong, exciting margarita and I want more immediately!

Sweetness

3 out of 5 cocktail shakers
One shaker = not sweet at all  // Five shakers = your teeth may curl

The sweetness of this ready-to-drink margarita is really what makes it stand out. It is not a "sweet" cocktail by any means. It is still 100% a margarita. But instead of having a mostly tart, citrus flavor as the main taste that you notice, it has a less citrusy flavor that is further smoothed out by the addition of agave and a touch of sugar.

I've never had another margarita like this one. I absolutely love this slightly less tart, smoother margarita.

Booziness

5 out of 5
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = Four Lokos

Officially this one rings in at 18.5% ABV. This is another strong cocktail from Curatif but it doesn't taste boozy. At all. So be careful with this one.

Also, this tiny can says that it is the equivalent of 1.9 standard drinks so it is basically a double strength margarita where you can't taste the booze at all, just Tommy's unique take on a margarita. Double trouble. I love it!

Would I buy this ready to drink cocktail again?

Absolutely! If these were available locally, it would 100% become the main margarita in my rotation. But sadly, like all of the other amazing Curatif cocktails I've tried they aren't available in the US just yet. Fingers crossed we get these stateside very very soon!

Check out their full line and send them your pleas for distribution to the US here: https://curatif.com/

Do you know of a canned cocktail I should try? I'd love to hear from you in the comments section.
