Canned cocktail review: Crook & Marker Blackberry Lime

Crook & Marker canned cocktail review by The Pursuit of Cocktails

If it has a lot of flavor, can it even be considered a hard seltzer?

In my mind seltzer = flavorless water. That goes for regular seltzers and the majority of hard seltzers I've tried. These flavorless drinks don't do much for me generally so I don't usually jump to try a new one. When I chose this canned cocktail from Crook & Marker I was thinking it might be more like a hard soda - at least that's what I was hoping. Fast forward a few months (I shop for a few months worth of reviews at once) and I'd forgotten all about what "category" of cocktail this was.

When I took my first sip I was like, wait, what is this drink? The can calls it a "spiked & sparkling" drink with zero sugar, made from organic alcohol. But that was in no way matching what I was tasting. I continued on in my photo taking and tasting, vowing to loop back and do some more digging when it was time to write up this review.

So what is the deal with this cocktail??

Here is my official review of Crook & Marker Blackberry Lime:

Five cocktail shakers

I did some digging on the Crook & Marker website and they are calling it "not another hard seltzer" I would 100% agree with that.

My very first thought was, how is this a hard seltzer?!!? In the best possible way! This canned cocktail has such a rich amount of flavor. It has a delicious berry flavor with a touch of citrus and the whole cocktail is somehow rich and sweet but not heavy. It might actually be magic.

This canned cocktail in blackberry lime reminds me a lot of the blueberry pomegranate juice from Pom which I absolutely LOVE. And this is a boozy version that is pretty healthy as far as cocktails go. It has only natural sweeteners, no fake ingredients and my favorite part - no sulfites (also known as what gives you a hangover.)

Crook & Marker is a 5/5 for me.

Sweetness

Three cocktail shakers
One shaker = not sweet at all  // Five shakers = your teeth may curl

Okay so in the scheme of cocktails this isn't the sweetest of the bunch. But for something that is technically a hard seltzer, it might be the sweetest one on the market.

Personally I love it. I like sweet drinks and this one is sweetened the right way with natural fruit juices and stevia instead of a bunch of sugar. It's sweet but not in a way that is going to give you a stomach ache.

Booziness

Three cocktail shakers
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = Four Lokos

Officially this one rings in at 4% ABV which is pretty light on the booze. This isn't the canned cocktail to grab if you want to rage. But if you are looking for a casual cocktail to just soften the edges of your day, this would be a great choice.

Would I buy this ready to drink cocktail again?

For sure! This is a cocktail I would buy for my girl gang for our next book club night. It's easy on all fronts. There are multiple flavors, the booziness is on the lighter side and - as always - canned cocktails are my favorite way to serve drinks when I don't want to be the bartender all night.

Here is the full list of the flavors from Crook & Marker. I can't wait to track down all of them and try them too.

    • Blackberry Lime - which I tried for this review
    • Black Cherry
    • Tangerine
    • Strawberry Lemon - how good does that sound?!?!?
    • Grapefruit
    • Mango
    • Peach - yes please!
    • Coconut Pineapple

Those are some bomb flavors. I need to try them all!
