Canned cocktail review: Costa Brava

Costa Brava canned cocktail review by The Pursuit of Cocktails

A healthier cocktail?

Hey all you cocktail loving peeps! I have two new vodka canned cocktails that I'm trying out this week. They are from Costa Brava out of Southern California and this brand definitely has that cool West coast vibe going for it. I am in love with their packaging! The cans are so fun and so colorful - which is basically the way to my heart. (I also added one of my beach umbrella Swizzlys to each can because they fit the vibe so perfectly!)

The thing about Costa Brava is that they aren't just trying to be a cool cocktail brand. They have a focus born of that active Cali lifestyle. Their vodka cocktails have zero sugar, zero carbs, and are gluten-free. While none of those things are usually on my radar personally, I know a lot of you ask about gluten free cocktails and are looking for low cal options so I've been excited to try this one for us.

Let's dig in!

Costa Brava Lemon Drop:

Overall score: 3/5

3 out of 5 cocktail shakers
Sweetness:
One shaker = not sweet at all // Five shakers = your teeth may curl
1 out of 5 cocktail shakers
Booziness: 6.7% ABV
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = OG Four Lokos
3 out of 5 cocktail shakers

This is a solid cocktail in that I could feel the quality vodka right from the first sip. That is a major point right off the bat. While the flavor overall is a little light for me, I get it. This canned cocktail is trying to be a healthier version. The flavor is pretty similar to a Lemon Drop shot if you can imagine stripping out all the sweetness.

Personally, I prefer a richer or sweeter cocktail but I can totally appreciate the Costa Brava Lemon Drop for what it is. It's kind of like a diet soda - if that diet soda had almost 7% alcohol. This cocktail will definitely get the job done if you don't mind the overall lightness of flavor. It is also still hands down a waaaaaay better alternative than most of the main stream hard seltzers for a light cocktail.

Costa Brava Vodka Cranberry:

Overall score: 3/5

3 out of 5 cocktail shakers
Sweetness:
One shaker = not sweet at all // Five shakers = your teeth may curl
1 out of 5 cocktail shakers
Booziness:  6.7% ABV
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = OG Four Lokos
3 out of 5 cocktail shakers

The Costa Brava Vodka Cranberry has its own flavor that is different from the Lemon Drop but overall these are very similar cocktails. The quality vodka is really what makes these two cocktails shine. In this case, it does have more of a cranberry flavor but without any of the sweetness you'd expect from the berry flavor.

This Vodka Cranberry is very light in that it has no sweetness but it does have slightly more flavor than similar hard seltzers that I've tried. I would 100% take this over a hard seltzer any day!

Would I buy these again?

I probably would not buy them for myself but I would absolutely recommend them for anyone looking for a low sugar, low cal cocktail.
