Canned Cocktail Review: Cocktail Squad Bourbon Smash

Posted by Jaime Fowler on

Cocktail Squad canned cocktail review by The Pursuit of Cocktails

This one stopped me in my tracks

Okay, so this is can is basically all my cocktail dreams come true. First, look at how freaking cute that can is! IRL the can has this beautiful matte black finish with metallic gold accents. And that logo? I die!

Next, it has real, actual liquor inside. Also known as exactly how a cocktail would be made for you in bar rather than an attempt to make a beverage flavored like a cocktail - I'm looking at you malt beverages.

And third, this cocktail - and two other cocktails that I got to pick - were sent to me by the brand, Cocktail Squad, to try. This might seem like a little thing in the world of Instagram influencers who make a living posting about brands but that is 100% not me. I don't get paid to review these. No one is sending me checks for posting about their brand on Instagram. I'm just a girl who loves cocktails and made a line of cocktail related products to celebrate all things cocktails.

When I decided to add this blog to my business, I dreamed of the day that I would have brands sending me their canned cocktails to try. I get excited every single time I get one in the mail. And - spoiler alert - almost all of the ones that are sent to me turn out to be amazing cocktails. My theory on this is that these cocktails are typically sent to me my the founders, or someone very close to the founders of the brand, and they have a lot of love for their product. As a fellow small business owner, this is a passion I can totally relate to which is yet another reason I love to share my cocktail reviews with you. I love having the opportunity to expose you, my cocktail-loving babe, to new cocktails brands.

When I popped over to the Cocktail Squad website to read their story, it was like I was meeting a kindred spirit. This line was created for the exact same reason I'm obsessed with ready-to-drink cocktails - for ease of a quality cocktail without having to be at an actual bar. I'm telling you, small business owners are the one's moving our world forward with their passion and innovation. #supportsmallbusiness

So after all of that, will Cocktail Squad make all my dreams come true with a cocktail that is also delicious (most importantly) on top of everything else? Let's find out.

Here is my official review of Cocktail Squad's Bourbon Smash:

5 out of 5

Um HELLO! Where has this cocktail been all my life? This might be my new all-time favorite canned cocktail of all the one's I've tried so far. The streak continues!

This is a seriously legit, hipster bar, mixologist-worthy cocktail. You can taste how good the whiskey is and the berry flavor is perfection. There are not a lot of berry flavored ready-to-drink cocktails on the market and even few that are actually good. This one takes the cake! I love everything about this Cocktail Squad Bourbon Smash. I'm almost speechless I love it so much!!!

Sweetness

Three cocktail shakers
One shaker = not sweet at all  // Five shakers = your teeth may curl

This canned cocktail is not super sweet. It has a bit of sweetness from the berries and the bourbon which you'd expect but it does not seem to have any extra sweetness added to it. For me the sweetness level on this cocktail is perfect. Not too sweet. Not too dry.

Booziness

4 out of 5
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = Four Lokos

Officially this one rings in at 10% ABV, or 20 proof, which is higher than most canned cocktails and I'm totally excited about it. The higher booziness plus the a-mazing flavor makes this a perfect sipping cocktail.

And with that, ALL my cocktail dreams are coming true. A delicious, real liquor, ready-to-drink cocktail with a high enough ABV to make it feel like a cocktail you'd be served at your favorite local bar.

Would I buy this ready to drink cocktail again?

Hell yes! And I will be buying one (or more) for all of my whiskey loving friends.

One other thing worth noting, each can technically contains 2 cocktails so you can split one can with your friend and you'll each have two full cocktails. No judgement tho if you don't! I certainly didn't. 😜

I'm super excited to have two more Cocktail Squad cocktails to try - a whiskey sour and a greyhound. I'll be back next week with a full review of those. I was originally planning to try all three for this post but the Bourbon Smash stopped me in my tracks and decided I had to give it a post of it's very own.

In case you are wondering what other cocktails Cocktail Squad has, here is a full list:

    • Gin & Tonic
    • Vodka Soda
    • Margarita
    • Bourbon Smash
    • Greyhound
    • Whiskey Sour

And you can find them in your area using this link.

Don't forget to check back next week when I try the other cocktails from Cocktail Squad.

Have you tried any of the Cocktail Squad cocktails yet? Which flavors do you like the best? I'd love to hear from you in the comments section. The more opinions the better! Let's "drink together" and share our cocktail stories.

  • #supportsmallbusiness indeed! I’m totally going to quote you because I love the way you said that: “small business owners are the one’s moving our world forward with their passion and innovation.“
This cocktail looks amazing! I’m excited to hear what you think of their greyhound, because I’m picky about those!
